Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club provides a nurturing environment where junior players can develop sportsmanship and skills, and an opportunity for social interaction in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Junior boys and girls play together in mixed teams from u6 to u13 in the local Gold Coast and District Rugby Union Competition. This development will also form a solid foundation for players aiming to achieve representative honours in the future with the Gold Coast Cyclones, district and regional school teams or higher rep levels. Our boys teams consist of players playing from u14 to u18.
In 2026 we will continue the Get into Rugby – Walla program for U4-U5 year olds. Walla at Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club creates an environment where everyone feels welcome, and people of all experience levels and abilities can thrive and enjoy playing rugby.

Uniforms, Training & Game Day info…
All Junior players receive a FREE Club Training Shirt, Club Shorts and Club Socks as part of their Club Membership. A numbered match jersey will be supplied to each player for game days and returned to Managers at the end of each game/season. All players need to provide their own mouth guard, boots and optional headgear/body armour.
Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club is used six nights a week during the rugby season by Junior, Senior and Rugby 7s teams. Individual team coaches determine how many sessions and when practices will be. Players (and parents) are notified of training sessions and times by their team Manager – Follow your team’s Facebook Group for the most up-to-date information.
Our Junior teams (U6 to U17) play against other Gold Coast & District Rugby Union Clubs, on Sunday mornings, starting from March 22 through until the end of August. Your team Manager will notify you each week of the upcoming game time and location – Team Ladders and fixtures information for the season will be available and regularly updated on the Rugby Xplorer App.
Every year Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club host a fun, family-friendly sign-on day where players can meet their coach/manager. This year’s sign-on day is Friday, 7th February from 5:30pm.
All registrations are completed online using the Rugby Xplorer App by credit or debit card.

Junior players who register by 5pm AEST on February 14, 2025 will be in the running to win a 2025 family season pass to the QLD Reds home games.
Some Pre-season club days and games are organised to promote our club and to encourage a good rugby experience. However, coaches of individual teams are ultimately responsible for ensuring their players are match fit and prepared for the season ahead. Come along to our pre-season launch event on Sunday, 1 February.
The first games of GCDRU Junior competition are scheduled to start on the weekend of March 22, 2026. Teams play every week, unless they have a bye, and continue through until the end of August (TBC 2026). There is one competition (season) with finals for ages U12 and above. The draw for 2026 Junior teams will be available on the Rugby Xplorer App before the Season starts and should be checked regularly for unexpected late changes.
Each year their is plenty of short out-of-season tournaments or Rugby 7s tournaments following a short break from the end of the 15-a-side season. Contact your team manager for more information or to register interest.
